It can be a counterproductive feedback loop: high levels of stress hormones can lead to cell death in the very regions that are supposed to tell the system to stop production. The proposition that the long-term effects of child sexual abuse may be modified by an individual's experience subsequent to the abuse has also been suggested. The term includes: (A) a juvenile justice alternative education program; (B) a non-residential program that serves juvenile offenders under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court; and (C) a juvenile probation department. (b) A report of alleged abuse, neglect, or exploitation in any juvenile justice program or facility shall be made to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and a local law enforcement agency for investigation. (c) The Texas Juvenile Justice Department shall conduct an investigation as provided by this chapter if that department receives a report of alleged abuse, neglect, or exploitation in any juvenile justice program or facility. (d) In an investigation required under this section, the investigating agency shall have access to medical and mental health records as provided by Subchapter D. (e) As soon as practicable after a child is taken into custody or placed in a juvenile justice facility or juvenile justice program, the facility or program shall provide the child's parents with: (1) information regarding the reporting of suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child in a juvenile justice facility or juvenile justice program to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department; and (2) the Texas Juvenile Justice Department's toll-free number for this reporting.
